Jack – 3 Months!

Our little Chipper is 3 months old!!!

The last 3 months have flown by!

IMG_7580

Jack, Jack, Jack….where to begin!

You are so happy all the time! You’re my little mini!! Daddy says you have my personality. Grandma even said you are just like me when I was a baby!!

IMG_7549

You love to smile and giggle!!

You are very social and smile at anyone who talks to you!! You always get a lot of attention from the ladies when we’re out. They are all so surprised when I tell them how old you are!! They always reply with ‘he’s huge!!’ haha 🙂

IMG_7645

You also love when Mommy sings to you!!! When I sing, you ‘sing’ with me. It’s so adorable. 🙂

You can roll from your tummy to your back!!

You’ve started playing with your hands and you bat your toys. You like to kick your piano and you like to watch tv!! Which I hate, Preston didn’t watch TV until he was like 15 months..and even then, he never actually sat and watched it until he was 2.5 or so. But Mommy needs a break sometimes and I let you watch it on occasion.

Speaking of needing a break, I cannot get you to nap for the life of me!!!! You will take a 2 hour nap during the day AND THAT’S IT!!  That’s not much for a little guy. That’s how you’ve coined the nickname ‘Bear’ too. When you do nap, we say, ‘don’t poke the Bear’!! it’s not that you’re a grumpy bear, it’s just that we don’t want to disrupt your naps since they’re so rare. ❤

You do sleep well in your car seat if we are running errands and in the ergo when we take walks.

IMG_7683

The good thing is that you aren’t cranky when you are not napping- which is a huge plus!! You are just ready for bed by 6pm every night!

On the bright side, you have been sleeping 12 hours a night (straight through) for a LONG time!! I am so grateful for that. I may not get any seconds to myself during the day, but at night, I get a full nights sleep!!

Since you are a non-napper, but a happy baby, we decided to take a family vacation ABROAD this summer!! We can’t wait. We shouldn’t have to worry about naps, but I’m bringing my Ergo just in case.

IMG_7416

You weigh  17 pounds!

IMG_7600

You are the sunshine we never knew we needed!!

IMG_7515

You and Big bro side by side!

…until next time! xoxo ❤

Preston – 3 years!

Happy birthday, Punky!! I can’t believe my little boy punk is 3 already!!!💙 You are, oh so sweet and charming. First thing in the morning you always say ‘I love you so much!!’ and give me a big hug. You tell me how cute jack is and that I’m beautiful. You look at me and say ‘you’re so beautiful, mommy!’ 💃🏻Even though you spend like 95% of your waking time with me, you always like to tell me ‘how daddy does it’ or ‘what daddy says’! Haha. You are such a good big brother to Jack. You love to give him kisses and you started calling him ‘little chipper’.🤣 You have become so independent lately! (100% potty trained! Yeah!) But you still love your snuggles with mom and dad!! You are a little more demanding these days and enjoy acting out during the day when I’m busy with Jack. But I’m hoping that just means you will make a good CEO someday! 😝You can play by yourself, you have a great imagination, and love running away from monsters that are chasing you! 🤢so cheers with our chocolate milk to my smart and silly 3 year old! 😘💕

(I had to throw that last pic in here! You said Jack was cold and needed to cover him up!🤣)

I am just so proud of the little boy you have become! I’ve never felt like you went through the terrible 1’s or 2’s! There was a little rough patch shortly after Jack was born. That only lasted a few weeks and now you’re better than ever. Every day your Daddy and I talk about how fun and sweet you are!

The other day when I was cooking dinner you looked at me and said: “Mommy, I want to go buy you pink tulips!” That is just like you. So sweet and thoughtful. Every time we go to Aldi you pick out flowers for me by the check out. ❤ you will make an awesome husband some day!!

You got a watch for your birthday (not a digital one either) and you are so cute with it!! When I ask you what time it is you’ll say “It’s 7 and 3, mom” (meaning 7:15)

Everyday you’re at school your teachers tell me how amazing you are! Yesterday when I asked you who you played with at school you said, “Jack and Evan. I love Jack and Evan. They are my best friends!” (not brother Jack; to clarify)

When we were at the gym (in our new town) for the first time, when I went to pick you and Jack back up from the nursery, the lady in there told me how attentive you are to your baby brother. She said she rarely sees that with older sibling. But you were on the ball with his Binky (pinky as you call it), if he was crying, etc!

you are an amazing eater! You will eat anything!!! The other day you were downing sardines and decaf green tea. I think it’s because Daddy has had you on a broad palette since the beginning (think: beef liver, pickled herring, fresh kale picked from the garden…)

Okay, Okay, I’m done rambling! I just love you sooo much! xoxo

…until next time!! xoxo

2016 in review

Even though January is coming to an end, I thought I would do a little 2016 year in review! With the arrival of baby Jack, we didn’t get around to sending out Christmas cards to all of our friends and family.

We started the year off planning our trip to Australia for my one of my best friends’ wedding. I was lucky enough to be her Matron of Honor! Since Chad and I had already been to Australia a few times, we decided to use this trip as the perfect excuse to see New Zealand!

After the wedding we hopped a flight to New Zealand. We rented a camper van and drove along the south island. We had a blast camping out and the scenery was amazing!! We were able to visit wineries, go sky diving, and just enjoy each others company while taking in the most wonderful views! It was such an awesome vacation and I always forget how much I love camping! 🙂

Chad’s sister watched Preston while we were gone. It was so nice to get away knowing he was in good hands! We sure did miss him though! Two weeks away was definitely long enough!

Shortly after returning from ‘down under’ we found out we were expecting a baby due in December!

Chad also started traveling to Nebraska for work 4-5 days a week upon returning from our trip. I definitely had my hands full with Preston and being pregnant (and sick until 27 weeks…okay, who am I kidding?? I was sick up until the day that I had Jack). The good news was that Chad had accepted a new role in Chicagoland and, thankfully, he wouldn’t be traveling in his new role. So while he finished up his days traveling, Preston and I were at home cleaning and keeping our house in perfect condition for showings. It was a crazy 6 months filled with house hunting trips, inspections, and more house hunting trips.

{{side note, we actually made an offer on a house, it was accepted, and then we decided to back out after the inspection–this happened towards the end of October. We ended up going back to the first house we fell in love with, made an offer, and luckily it was accepted on the evening of October 30th.}}

The plan was for Preston and I to stay at our house in Iowa until it sold, thankfully, it sold in 3 weeks and we were able to join Chad in Illinois. We closed on our house November 30th and were able to get moved in and settled that weekend. We had family come over to help us unpack and organize our whole house!! It was such a blessing considering I was about 37 weeks pregnant by then.

In December I scouted out some schools for Preston. We got him enrolled in a cute little school that is just a couple miles from our house! It was a little transition for him; new house, new school, new baby brother on the way…but he’s done so well! It’s so awesome hearing him tell us stories about what he learns at school.

We were able to host Christmas for my family! They were hoping Jack would make his appearance while they were all here…but of course that didn’t happen! He decided to wait a little longer.

We finally were able to meet our little bundle on December 30th. He arrived in less than 3 hours and has had our hearts ever since! He was 7 lbs 11 oz and was 20 inches long. He has been such a good baby so far. He’s very content and easy going and gives me baby fever (is that even possible?!?! haha). We can’t wait to watch him grow–hopefully not too fast though!

Preston has really taken to being a big brother. He loves Jack so much already! He’s always wanting to kiss him and hold him. He’s been a good helper too, always fetching me things, doing tummy time with Jack, helping with bath time, giving Jack his binky, or as punk calls it, his ‘pinky’. 🙂 Although, Preston has tested me on more occasions than I’d like to admit, at least he loves his brother! My sweet boy has decided to rebel against his Mom a bit. He still loves construction sites and machinery. He’s smart and silly and the perfect mix of Chad and me. We look forward to seeing his relationship with Jack grow into something special! (I’ve already gotten them 3 matching sweaters for next winter and matching bowties for Christmas!! YAY!)

We were able to ring in the New Year from the hospital and were discharged the next day. We definitely started the year off with a bang! We were able to bring our new addition to our new home for the very first time on January 1st.

Well, that was our year in a nutshell! Can’t wait to see what 2017 has in store for us!!

We hope the New Year brings you all the happiness. ❤

…until next time! xoxo ❤

Snow Day!!

We’ve been enjoying this #snowday so much! We made smoothies with breakfast and went outside to frolic in the snow!

image

We did a little shoveling and built a nice big fort!! #fortpunk

image

It’s pretty hard to see with all the white. but it’s there!

image

We tried building a snowman, but Bentley had the neighbor dog over to play, and they kept eating our snowballs. Pretty soon it just turned into a snowball fight. Punk and me against the dogs.

image

Preston is a little snow bunny!! He didn’t want to come inside!!

image

When we got back inside we ate lunch and baked some sweet potato chips for dessert. 😛

image

Preston is the best little sous chef!

image

Not only did he help me cook lunch and make dessert, he helped me make a little coconut oil & grapefruit lotion.

image

cute jars are compliments of Target $1 spot! woohoo!

It’s hard to believe yesterday was sunny and 35 degrees and today its a blizzard! This was us yesterday, soaking up all the vitamin D we could get:

image

That wraps up this snow day! Hopefully after nap time we can go out and finish that snowman we were trying to make earlier!

{{slight pause in the blog post as I hear Preston crying from his crib, I run upstairs and he has nail polish all over his hands and crib, at first I thought it was blood (whew, it wasn’t) …but it was everywhere! I’m thinking blood might have been easier to clean up….but I still prefer the nail polish over the blood. Now i’m wondering how he ended up in bed with a bottle of my (pink & red) nail polish…time to move it up a little higher…}}

…until next time! xoxo ❤

image

a little cuteness.

Today when we were saying goodbye to Chad:

I said, ‘i love you!!’

Preston said, ‘I’ and I said, ‘Love’, and he said, ‘YOU!!!’.

I wanted Preston to say it by himself. So next time he said, ‘I’ and paused, and I said, ‘what comes after I?’ and he said, ‘J’…. I had to do a quick run through of the alphabet, lol, but yes, you’re right, ‘J’ does come after ‘I’! haha!!

Chad and I looked at each other like, ‘who is this kid?!’. Oh the way the mind thinks. And to think, he’s not even 2 yet!

image

Preston uses his little stool for everything. He pushes that sucker all over the house! It’s pretty cute and resourceful. He uses it to turn on and off lights, to get food and drinks, etc.! I had to snap this photo because as I was laying in and he was just doing his thing, and I was just thinking, ‘he will never be this young again. he will never be this tiny again!’ it was a crazy thought!

image

I’m trying to remember all the cute things Preston does before I forget them all. It seems like just yesterday he would say ‘ek’ intead of ‘x’ and ‘eee’ for ‘train’ (because that’s the noise the train made when it went by our house).

Now the cute favorites are:

‘bork’ \\ fork

‘poon’ \\ spoon

‘bopcorn’ \\ popcorn

‘bup’ \\ cup

‘poppee’ \\ coffee

‘bi-base’ \\ fireplace

His f’s sound like b’s and his c’s sound like b’s. It’s the most adorable thing! What’s funny is that he can say is r’s so clearly, and that was the letter both Chad and I couldn’t say when we were young.

Preston knows his whole alphabet and has for awhile now. When we read his book ‘Chicka Chicka Boom Boom’, he always says, ‘R’ and other ‘r’, for capital and lowercase. I’m impressed he knows the uppercase and lowercase versions of the alphabet. What i was even more impressed with though, we were at Red Lobster eating with my Mom a few weeks ago and Preston was able to tell us every letter in ‘Red Lobster’ when it was backwards! The letters were on the window so people outside could read them, he knew what they were even when they were transposed.

I swear, if I did baby birthday parties, i would have his second birthday party theme be letters. haha!! No joke, he would be ecstatic.

Most recently we’ve been working on numbers. He can count, he just doesn’t like to do it. Which is fine, but I always like to squeeze counting in every time we climb stairs and walk past cars, etc! Just to expose him to it! No drilling here, just fun learning.

He knows his colors. Today we were downstairs by his little Christmas tree (yes, it’s still up, but it’s the only Christmas decoration that’s still out) and he was able to name off all the colors on his tree with no prompting. Yellow, blue, green, red, and pink. I think pink is his favorite color! He definitely seems to favor it!!

Today when we were coloring, I showed Preston how to write a ‘P’ step by step and he did one too. It was pretty cool! (below, you can see my green ‘P’ and his huge blueish gray ‘P’)

image

Preston still refers to himself at ‘Punky’. Even when i say ‘Preston’ he says ‘Punky!!’ I guess that’s what we get for only referring to him as Punky for he majority of his life. haha!!! I can just see it now, Punky H. on the roster for sport in high school.  hahaha!! 🙂

Tonight after I took Preston’s diaper off for ‘nakey time’ he looked at me and said, ‘pee pee’. I asked him if he needed to go sit on the potty and he said, ‘yes’. so we ran to the potty, he sat down, and he went! YAY!!!!! no prompting, no pressuring. all on his own. 🙂 I was so proud!!!! Chad was still at work so I made sure to FaceTime my parents so we could all celebrate together! Now i really need to make that sticker reward chart!!

image

One last thing, Preston had his first night in his big boy room!! He did so well! He slept his usual 12 hours. We were so proud of him!!

image

Now we are off to make brownies! 😛

…until next time! xoxo ❤

Superpunky takes Halloween

I can’t believe another year has gone by!

image

Preston celebrated his second Halloween.

image

I did have a minor parenting fail though. On Thursday around 5pm I found out from my neighbor that trick-or-treating was going to be on Friday (instead of saturday the 31st) due to a home football game. I hadn’t gotten any candy, Preston’s halloween costume was 2 hours away (he was supposed to be buzz & woody with his cousin–they’re both obsessed!), and hubby was still gone on a business trip! I loaded Preston in the car and we headed to wal-mart for candy and a last minute costume. Thankfully, they had a costume in Preston’s size!! My 13 year old self was jumping for joy. I finally had a child to dress as my favorite childhood super hero/crush. So I grabbed the costume and candy and we decided to stop over at the mall quick before heading home. We went inside and everyone had their children dressed in costumes and all the stores in the mall were passing out candy! I couldn’t believe I had dropped the ball again!! With tears welling in my eyes, we ran out to the car, I threw on Preston’s superman costume, and we went back inside! I bought him a little bag at TJ Maxx to use for candy.

image

He was a little shy at first, I had to show him what to do. Walk up to the stranger, grab candy from them, stick it in your bag, tell them thank you, and move on to the next stranger. He caught on pretty quickly once he realized candy was involved!

image

I’m SO glad we stopped by the mall. It was so much fun! Preston had a blast!! It was the perfect warm-up for Friday nights shenanigans!

..and thankfully Dada was home to join in on all the fun this time!

image

Superpunky finished all of his chores just in time for trick-or-treating to start!

image

Even superhero’s have chores.

image

We hung out outside and Preston was able to pass out candy to all the kids!

image

After the rush was over on our block, we took Preston to a few houses around our neighborhood! Thankfully he remembered what to do.

image

It was so great. Last year he was too young to enjoy the fun. This year he was the perfect age! He was so cute knocking on the neighbors door and then peeking his head to look in the windows next to the door.
